A young girl died on Aug. 13 in Cordova after she was allegedly left in a daycare van.
The Commercial Appeal's broadcast partner, WMC Action News 5, reported that Winter Jones, age 6, was discovered at Kid University, located at 771 Walnut Knoll Ln in Cordova, just after 3 p.m. The Memphis Police Department confirmed officers responded to an ambulance call at that location.
According to the National Weather Service in Memphis, by 3 p.m. on Aug. 13, it was 95 degress with a heat index of 103.
As of Aug. 14, the daycare's website was suspended.
MPD confirmed officers responded to a call for an ambulance in the 700 block of Walnut Knoll Lane shortly after 3 p.m. on Aug. 13.
"Upon arrival, officers found a young girl in need of medical assistance. She
was transported to the hospital in critical condition and was later pronounced deceased," MPD said in a statement.
A death investigation is ongoing, according to MPD.
It's the third hot car death to occur in Tennessee this year, according to nonprofit Kids and Car Safety.
