Colonial Country Club will host a golf benefit Thursday for the American Red Cross in honor of Gary Lasko, who was a member of the club. One hundred percent of the proceeds will be donated to the American Red Cross Disaster Relief Fund. A memorial mass will be held for Lasko on Saturday, Oct. 13 at St. Louis Catholic Church. A reception will follow at The Marsh Center.
50 years ago — 1976
A committee investigating Memphis police-community relations will decide today whether to ask Washington officials to subpoena city records, the committee chairman said yesterday. The Tennessee Advisory Committee of the U.S. Commission on Civil Rights has the power to "invite" public officials to attend hearings, but the full commission has the authority
to issue subpoenas.

75 years ago — 1951
Hillsman Taylor, Memphis attorney who for many years was president of the Memphis Open Air Theatre, yesterday was named chairman of the Nominating Committee to name officers for the new year. His selection was made by the MOAT Board of Directors meeting at the Gayoso. Named on the committee with Mr. Taylor were Arthur Halle, H.W. Hirsheimer, Seddon Allen and Jesse Cunningham.
100 years ago — 1926
"If you boys would just come out and see what you are doing to Marshall Street, instead of going by your map, you wouldn't run it so crooked," W.I. Overton, real estate operator, told the city commissioners in voicing a vigorous protest against the ordinance passed at the final reading yesterday afternoon to widen Marshall Street from Union to Linden, which includes opening part of Marshall through new territory, all under the front root assessment plan. Mr. Overton pointed out that Myrtle and Sevier streets have been renamed Marshall and that the turn Marshall makes at Union and the former Myrtle Street is more than a 45 degree angle. In two weeks the ordinance comes up for confirmation.
