After almost four months of looking for a new home, Main Street Collierville has finally moved — to where it belongs. The nonprofit organization has spent the past six years in a former church that now holds the town's planning and development staff as well as Human Resources. Last Friday Two Men and a Truck pulled up and moved it to new offices back on the Town Square. Main Street reopened this week in offices on the second story of the Sanctuary on the square. Executive director Laura Todd, an administrative assistant and a part-time bookkeeper now inhabit the former pastor's office and counseling center.
50 years ago — 1976
Today is the entry deadline for the Blind Pro Tournament carded at Farmington as a final warmup for the second
River City Intercollegiate Invitational to be held there Oct. 1-3. The tournament, which is a combination pro-am scramble, is a final attempt to raise funds for the River City and all entry fees are tax exempt. Held under the sponsorship of the Germantown Optimist Club, in conjunction with Memphis State and Farmington, the River City brings 21 top college teams (Division One) in the nation to Memphis for what is regarded as the top Fall tournament of the season.
75 years ago — 1951
The Le Bonheur Charity Horse Show will be an important feature of the Mid-South Fair and Livestock Show this year. Top stables from scattered sections of the country will send their riders and horses to Memphis for the 44 events to be staged in the enclosed Fairgrounds arena Sept. 27, 28, 29, with a matinee performance also on Sept. 29.
100 years ago — 1926
The Philharmonic String Quartet will broadcast a special programme from WMC, under the auspices of Goldsmith's Department Store tonight. Opening the hour will be an address of welcome to the new radio season made by Mayor Paine. This will be followed by the concert of chamber music, which will include violin and vocal solos, as well as the quartette numbers.
