City school board staff officials yesterday promised to correct several errors in an application for $8.6 million in federal Title I funds and to check further into several complaints made by the program's parents advisory council. However, Dr. Willie W. Herenton, deputy superintendent for instructional services, said no major changes are planned in the fund application which must be submitted to state education officials.
75 years ago — 1951
Three new Continental Trailways through bus services will go into operation today bringing to five the
number of through buses daily from Memphis to Chicago. Memphis will serve as the common axis for the "Chicagoer" through bus from Houston, Texas, to Chicago, the "Gulf Coaster," through bus from Biloxi to Chicago, and the "Orleanean" through bus from New Orleans to Chicago.
100 years ago — 1926
More than 500 students have enrolled in the various departments of the University of Tennessee for the coming year, practically doubling the enrollment of previous years. With the new laboratory building completed, many more students can be accommodated at the college.
