A woman died Sept. 12 after she was found unresponsive in her cell at the Shelby County Jail East Women's facility, the Shelby County Sheriff's Office confirmed.
At around 2:50 p.m. on Sept. 12, a woman identified as Beverly Turnage, 43, was found unresponsive in her cell, according to SCSO. Turnage was transported in critical condition to Baptist Memphis Hospital.
Turnage was pronounced dead at 3:37 p.m.
The case is an active investigation, according to SCSO.
