The University of Memphis football team got a show of support from one of the Bluff City’s biggest music stars this week as Moneybagg Yo visited with players and offered words of encouragement during a practice session.
The Billboard chart-topping rapper visited the 2-0 Tigers following the team’s 42-24 win over Arkansas State on Sept. 5. The Tigers social media team posted a video on Sept. 7 of Moneybagg’s team talk, which apparently came as a surprise to the squad.
Tigers head coach Charles Huff introduced Moneybagg and asked him to tell the players what Tigers football means to the city of Memphis.
“I need y’all to turn up. We need y’all to win
— you gotta do that,” Moneybagg said, before asking Coach Huff: “Where’s my jersey?”
After presenting Moneybagg with his Tigers gear, Huff said: “You guys know who this is and what this city means to him, and obviously what he’s doing for the city [and] what you guys are doing for the city. You’ve got a chance to do something really special.”
The undefeated Tigers will travel to Idaho to play the Boise State Broncos at Albertsons stadium in Boise on Sept. 12.
