The local equestrian community will have a meeting today to discuss the possibility of establishing a riding trail in Meeman-Shelby Forest State Park. . .There has been no riding in the park since a horse rental business closed several years ago.

Administrative City Court Judge Robert Love says he favors "some type of crackdown" on businesses that do not follow through to prosecute shoplifting cases. "We have far too many cases where the security guards, particularly those at downtown stores, are catching shoplifters, are getting the warrants and getting the people arrested, and then just dropping the matter. "They seem to fear being sued for prosecuting. According to the law, they have already accepted liability
by obtaining the warrants. It's a terrible practice."
75 years ago — 1951
Members of the Board of Elizabeth and Lowenstein Clubs will use money willed to them by Mrs. Elizabeth Messick Houck and Mrs. R.B. Logan to create a permanent recreation and educational fund, with only the interest to be used. The decision was reached at the meeting conducted by Mrs. Walter Moore Tuesday morning at the Elizabeth Club.
100 years ago — 1926
The state of Arkansas delivered another blow Saturday in its tilt with the Mid-South Kennel Club over the dog racing and gambling at Harahan Park. Immediately after the club attorneys filed petition for an injunction against Sheriff Claude Cooper, District Attorney Zal B. Harrison and Deputy District Attorney Frank Berry, seeking to enjoin them from interfering with the operation of the track at Harahan Park, the state's attorneys filed a cross bill asking for an injunction against any further operation of the track. So far the state is the winner. The track is closed.
