Over 15 years before Bass Pro Shops moved into the Pyramid, the sporting goods giant first entered the Memphis market in East Memphis. Now that location's time is about to come to an end.
Open since 2000, the 83,000-square-foot Bass Pro, 6140 Macon Road, is now up for sale as its lease is set to expire. The location's last day open will be Sept. 26.
In a statement to The Commercial Appeal, the company confirmed the shop would consolidate all of its goods, services and operations to the Pyramid and direct layoffs would not occur.
"Bringing our Memphis operations together in one flagship location will allow us to better serve customers with the widest selection of quality products while continuing to provide the genuine friendly, expert service they
have come to expect from Bass Pro Shops," the statement read. "It is important to note that we do not anticipate any job eliminations as a direct result of this transition, and all Outfitters at the East Memphis location will have the opportunity to continue serving customers in similar roles at the Pyramid."
The Macon location currently shares a shopping strip with Colonial Hardware, Whiskey Jill's bar and a Pizza Hut, among other businesses. This will be the largest active vacancy in that strip.
