Briarcrest football will be staying in TSSAA football's Division II-AAA, the school announced on Sept. 29.
It's decision comes less than 24 hours after Christian Brothers and Memphis University School decided to opt out of West Region play for an independent schedule in 2027-28 and 2028-29 seasons.
"Briarcrest is a proud member of the TSSAA, and we will continue to compete in Division II-AAA for football," the school noted in a media statement." We are committed to fielding teams that shape the character of our student-athletes through the lessons learned in hard-fought competition.
"Out students will continue to benefit from a strong Christian education while not sacrificing the opportunity to compete for State Champions."
Other DII football programs
in Nashville, Christ Presbyterian Academy andFather Ryan announced its football programs will be playing an independent schedule for the next two years 2027-2029, rendering both ineligible to compete in the playoffs.
The TSSAA is holding a meeting on Oct. 1 to discuss how DII-AAA will reach its mandatory 12-team minimum status.
