While one fast chain has closed down, another is planned to come to the same location in Millington.
The Millington Planning Commission Aug. 17 unanimously approved a site plan and design for a Panada Express at 8523 N. U.S. Highway 51. The proposed Panda Express planned to rehab the former roughly 2,500-square-foot Hardee’s restaurant, which closed in January, along with several other Hardee’s restaurants in the Memphis area.
California-based Panda Express is touted as the largest American Chinese fast-food restaurant chain in the United States. The restaurant was founded in 1983 by husband and wife Andrew and Peggy Cherng along with Andrew’s
father Ming-Tsai Cherng.
Panada Express’ signature dishes or entrees include orange chicken, Beijing beef, honey walnut shrimp and Kung Pao chicken with popular sides consisting of fried rice, chow mein and a "Super Greens option with a trio of greens. Panda Express has more than 2,600 locations worldwide, including five locations in the Memphis area.
Panda Express is in the process of opening a new Bartlett location at 8030 U.S. 64 at the former site of Colton’s Steak House & Grill.
At the budding Bartlett location, Panda Express demolished the former restaurant and is constructing a new 2,697-square-foot space with a drive-thru. The new Panda Express in Bartlett is planned to have 56 parking spaces.
