Southwind continued its hot start to the season behind Auburn football commit Khamoni Williams' three-touchdown game as the Jaguars crushed Ridgeway, 63-0, during Week 2 of the TSSAA football season on Aug. 28.
Southwind (2-0) scored on nearly every offensive possession, and there were plenty of players that could be highlighted, including junior Logan Hughes who had two kick return touchdowns, or Jeremiah Taylor's jump ball touchdown in which he out-dueled a Ridgeway defender to haul in a 40-yard pass by quarterback Malcom Jack.
But the night belonged to Williams. The 5-foot-11, 205-pound tailback duplicated what he did last week in the Jaguars' 36-28 win over Lausanne, running for over 100 yards against Ridgeway (0-2).
"When I step on the field
it's all about standard," Williams said. "I want to set the standard for me and the people that's behind me on the field as well. So every time I step on the field it's all about setting the tone."
In both games, Williams has produced long touchdown runs. Against the Lynx it was a 90-yard TD. Against the Road Runners, he sprinted 75 yards in the second half to put his team up 35-0.
Jaguars head coach Jerome Griffin has noticed how easy it is to coach Williams.
"He's a special player man," Griffin said. "He's big, fast, strong and a real coachable kid. Very easy to coach and with a senior offensive line it's very easy for him to get going."
Through two games, Williams has run for 285 yards and is on pace to eclipse 1,000 yards.
Fans will get to see him face Houston's defense on Sept. 4. Houston gave up only six points to Germantown in Week 1 but gave up 43 in a loss to Whitehaven in Week 2. Southwind showed its offensive versatility against Ridgeway as a running clock brought the game to a rapid end in the second half.
"We just have to take it one day at a time," Williams said. "When we go out there on gameday we just have to keep doing what we're doing, and the word of the day is 'set the standard'."
