City Council members fired another salvo at Baptist Memorial Hospital Tuesday by delaying funding for an East Memphis road-widening project that would benefit the hospital. The council's Public Works and Transportation Committee agreed to postpone for two wees a vote on funds for widening Walnut Grove. Council members were concerned about spending money to acquire land needed to widen a stretch of road near Interstate 240.

The problem that Linda Ronstadt has had in the past with picking material that goes well with her tantalizing voice is, thank goodness, not in evidence on her new album, Hasten Down the Wind (Asylum). Despite the great job Miss Ronstadt has done on a number of individual songs, the fact
remains that she had had only one really quality album, her Heart Like a Wheel album on Capitol. But this one makes two.

W.C. Handy's playing of the "Memphis Blues" and his comments on blues music, which he originated, will be featured in a forthcoming historical phonograph record album entitled "Hark The Years," the veteran composer said yesterday in a letter received by Lieut. George W. Lee, Beale Street insurance man and his representative.
100 years ago — 1926
Memphis awaits the coming of the Cotton States merchants who Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday will throng the city for their thirteenth annual convention. J.H. Patton, president of the National Bedding Company, chairman of the reception committee, expects an attendance of about 2,500 out-of-town businessmen, and if the weather is favorable he says this number may be greatly exceeded.
