Ten percent of Memphis Light, Gas and Water customers were still without power as of 11:30 a.m. on Aug. 24.
MLGW, Memphis' electricity provider, has faced major outages following an Aug. 22 storm, which registered as the seventh most damaging storm in the utility company's history, President and CEO Doug McGowen said.
As of 11:30 a.m., over 45,000 customers did not have power. McGowen said those without electricity shouldn't plan on getting it back for several days. He said MLGW expects to have power restored for the majority of customers by Thursday evening (Aug. 27) at an Aug. 23 press conference.
NOTE: if power is out at your home please check your weatherhead. If it is damaged you will need to contact an electrician then Code Enforcement before

MLGW advised customers facing blackouts to check their home's weatherhead — the hood placed at the top of the outdoor electrical conduit to protect from rain and snow — for damage. If there is impairment to a weatherhead, homeowners are responsible for hiring an electrician for repairs before MLGW's Code Enforcement department can conduct an inspection and then restore service, according to a post on MLGW's X account.
