A new Travel + Leisure list ranks Memphis as the best road trip destination in the country.
The ranking was derived from a different list created by Wander, which focused on the happiest vacation destinations in the U.S. This list also highlighted areas with minimal traffic congestion. Based on this information, Travel + Leisure compiled a list of the best cities for a road trip
, taking traffic conditions into account."The idea is simple: Less time stuck in traffic equals less stress for the driver and more time actually seeing the destination’s sights," Travel + Leisure wrote.
Ironically, the top spot for best road trip destinations comes less than a month after Memphis was ranked the second-worst city for drivers after spending three years
as the worst.

Why was Memphis the best city for a road trip?
Memphis, Tennessee, was listed as a great place to visit, thanks to its light traffic and easy access from major highways like interstates 40, 55, and 22.
Visitors can enjoy live music on Beale Street, taste some of the city’s famous barbecue at popular spots like Central BBQ and Charlie Vergos’ Rendezvous, and check out important attractions like Graceland, home of Elvis Presley, and the National Civil Rights Museum.
