The Church of God in Christ is pursuing accreditation for a four-year Bible College in Memphis. The new All Saints Bible College, formerly the C.H. Mason Bible College in Whitehaven, is enrolling students for this semester through Sept. 24. The school is now operating as a two-year college but officials hope to operate as a four-year institution by August 2002.
50 years ago — 1976
Jesse Winchester, the countrified rock expatriate to Canada who grew up in Memphis, has his first album in two years, "Let the Rough Side Drag," on Warner Bros.-distributed Bearsville label. Winchester, who composes, sings and plays piano and guitar, emigrated to Canada in Vietnam war-scarred 1967 to avoid the draft.

More than half
the city's clergymen will throw moral weight behind the Crusade for Freedom campaign this weekend. Dr. James D. Jenkins, pastor of Trinity Methodist Church and chairman of crusade's Church Committee, said ministers of all faiths will call attention to the campaign in pulpit messages. Some will offer sermons on liberty. Others will indorse the crusade in announcements.
100 years ago — 1926
Unless managers of Loew's State and Pantages theaters agree today to the demand of the musician's Union for a wage scale of $55 for playing for vaudeville alone, or $65 a week for both pictures and vaudeville, the two houses may be without music after today, it was intimated last night. Notice that the agreement had to be signed today was given A.B. Morrison, manager of Pantages Theater, yesterday. Officials of the musicians union were uncommunicative on the matter early this morning.
