What is the story about?

A new liquor store is in the works near the Benjamin L. Hooks Central Library in Memphis.

Cork & Barrel Wine and Spirits is set to open a location at 2858 Poplar Ave., according to a permit filing with the Memphis and Shelby County Division of Planning and Development.

Located a block away from Amro Music Stores, the address is the former location of another liquor store, Cactus Liquor & Wine. The 6,000 square foot building will be renovated, not torn down.

A new liquor store, Cork & Barrel Wine and Spirit, will move into the former Cactus Liquor & Wine, seen on Sept. 15, 2026.

Cork & Barrel Wine and Spirits has another small location in Downtown Nashville. Besides a range of wines, beers, spirits and mixers, the store also sells cigars and snacks.
