J. William Daniel was a war hero, athlete and successful businessman. Mr. Daniel, former executive director of the Cook Convention Center and former president and CEO of Décor Noel Corp., died Wednesday at Saint Francis Hospital of cardiac arrest. He was 81.

Memphis Opera Theatre-Memphis State University Opera again is facing a problem which confronted it last winter: Finding an executive director. Edward W. Blair, who took the reins in March has resigned. He gave his resignation to Dr. Richard O. Bicks, Memphis Opera president in a Saturday night telephone conversation. . .Blair succeeded George Osborne, who resigned in November, as top executive of the opera company.

lend a gaily seasonal tone to decorations when the Nineteenth Century Club celebrates its formal opening of the Fall season with a complimentary party for members, their escorts and their non-member guests at the club Tuesday night.

The old Jefferson Avenue School at Fourth Street and Jefferson Avenue will be converted into an "Opportunity School" for the benefit of pupils who do not fit into the environment of their home school, according to a decision made by members of the City Board of Education at a called meeting last night. Students who are not able to attend school regularly, but only part of the time, will also go to this school.
