A third McDonald’s restaurant is in the works in Collierville.
A ground breaking ceremony was held Aug. 14 for the construction of a new 4,300-square-foot McDonald’s to be located at 10215 E. Shelby Drive in the Carriage Crossing Marketplace that features major retailers, including Ross Dress for Less, Old Navy and Petco.
The new Collierville McDonald’s will sit on 1.7 acres and will include indoor and outdoor seating capacity for 78 total guests as well as 38 parking spaces, including dedicated delivery parking.
The McDonald’s will mark local owner/operator Alex Pina’s — owner of Pina Elite Restaurant Group — ninth McDonald’s in the Memphis area.
He also
owns an existing location at 3675 S. Houston Levee Road in Collierville. The new restaurant will be Pina’s second in the Town and the first restaurant constructed from the ground up. There is another Collierville McDonald's location at 852 W. Poplar Ave.
"For me, this project represents much more than building another restaurant," Pina said. "It's an opportunity to continue investing in a community that has embraced us, create new jobs, serve our customers in a growing area of Collierville and build something our team can be proud of for years to come."
The Collierville Planning Commission in May unanimously gave a favorable recommendation for the preliminary site plan for the new McDonald’s, while the Board of Mayor and Aldermen unanimously approved a development contract during its March 23 meeting.
The fast food giant is estimated to have a staff of 60 employees and to open in mid-December.
"Alex has demonstrated a tremendous commitment to Collierville and the Mid-South through his leadership, community involvement and investment," Collierville Mayor Maureen Fraser said. "We're excited to celebrate this groundbreaking and look forward to welcoming another quality business that will create jobs and serve our residents."
Glasgow in Germantown development update
According to the City of Germantown’s website posted on Aug. 17, construction is set to start on the first phase of the Glasgow development at the former Germantown Country Club.
Located north of Farmington Boulevard between Kimbrough and Allenby Roads, Phase 1A is comprised of 34.2 acres of the 177-acre development and includes 61 residential lots. According to city officials, construction will begin with the community clubhouse, which will serve as an anchor for the neighborhood.
The three-phase Glasgow Planned Unit Development (PUD) outline plan was approved by the Germantown Board of Mayor and Aldermen in January 2022. When complete, the development is planned to include 366 homes.
Spence Ray is the president at McNeil Commercial Real Estate and developer of the planned Glasgow subdivision. Ray told the Commercial Appeal in a previous story Phase 1 will include 150 single-family homes, while Phase 2 will have 113 homes and Phase 3 will have 103 homes.
Collierville breaks ground on $12M library expansion project
One of the Town of Collierville’s essential amenities will be getting a massive upgrade.
Collierville broke ground Aug. 12 on the expansion and renovation of the Lucius E. and Elsie C. Burch, Jr. Libraryat 501 Poplar View Parkway.
The library sits across from Collierville Town Hall.
Lisa Plath, who has been the library director since 2020, told the Commercial Appeal following the groundbreaking ceremony the library expansion will be a roughly $12 million construction project. Plath said the expansion will double the size of the Collierville Burch Library.
The renovations to the library will feature a 300-person civic center. The modular space is designed to split into three separate meeting rooms for town events and public use.
Construction on both the library expansion and interior renovation is scheduled for full completion in Spring 2028.
Bartlett Planning Commission approves phases on Union Depot project
The suburb’s planning commission during its Aug. 3 meeting unanimously approved the construction plan and final plan for Phase 4 of the Union Depot mixed-use project. The 74-acre project site is located off U.S. 70 at Stage Road on the former campus of the Tennessee Baptist Children’s Home.
According to staff reports, Phase 4 is to subdivide 14.166 acres into 51 detached single family residential lots. The detached single family residential lots will range in size between 6,000-square-feet to roughly 13,000-square-feet. Access to the subdivision will be from Kirby Whitten Road and the Mannington Drive and Middlebury Drive connections to Phase 2B of the Union Depot project, which will consist of 22 townhomes and 54 single family homes.
In October 2023, the planning commission approved the construction plans for Phase 2B.
Currently, construction is ongoing at Union Depot for the "Station Lofts" portion of the development.
Developer Keith Grant said the development will consist of 82 one-bedroom and studio units above 2,000 square feet of retail space on the ground floor. Grant said Station Lofts should be completed in March 2027.
