For the second consecutive week, the Memphis area’s TSSAA football game of the week ended in a one-score game. Whitehaven pulled out a 7-6 win against Germantown to open Region 8-6A play.
Week 5 features an exciting slate of contests. Here is our list of 10 top games this week, along with predictions.
Game of the Week
Bartlett (3-1) at Houston (1-3)
When: 7 p.m. | Sept. 18
This Region 7-6A matchup is a great way for league play to kick off. Houston will be hungry to get back in the win column after losing three consecutive games against some of the Memphis area’s top programs.
Bartlett had more success in non-region games on paper but lost 20-13 to Germantown, the same school Houston beat 40-6 in Week 1. But Bartlett boasts 4-star wide receiver Pierce Washington who has over 200 yards receiving.
Myers prediction: Houston 34, Bartlett 17
Brentwood Academy (2-2) at Christian Brothers (3-1)
When: 7 p.m. | Sept. 18
This Division II-AAA West Region clash is an exciting way for both teams to begin region play. Led by sophomore quarterback Nate Brick, CBHS has been explosive, though it narrowly lost to Montgomery Bell Academy, one of Nashville’s top teams.
The road ahead does not get any easier as Brentwood Academy, the No. 1 team in the latest Nashville area Super 25 football rankings, comes to town for a Sept. 18 matchup.
Ryan Myers’ prediction: Christian Brothers 27, Brentwood Academy 23
Arlington (4-0) at Collierville (1-3)
When: 7 p.m. | Sept. 18
Similar to the other Region 7-6A game, Collierville faced steep competition to begin 2026, and its record reflects that. All three of the Dragons’ losses came against Super 25-ranked opponents in Nashville and Mississippi.
Arlington, on the other hand, has breezed past its competition, though its schedule hasn't been as tough. The Tigers’ opponents have a combined record of 2-13, and three of those teams are still winless entering Week 5.
Myers' prediction: Collierville 30, Arlington 21
Briarcrest (4-0) at St. Benedict (4-0)
When: 7 p.m. | Sept. 18
One team’s undefeated start is set to end in this non-region clash. Led by junior quarterback Cayden Dixon, Briarcrest has been flying offensively, scoring at least 44 points in every game so far.
St. Benedict has been equally impressive. The Eagles’ average margin of victory is more than 32 points per game. This contest has the makings of a high-scoring affair.
Myers' prediction: Briarcrest 35, St. Benedict 24
Lausanne (0-2) at Germantown (2-2)
When: 7 p.m. | Sept. 17
Thursday night football comes to Germantown in Week 5. The hosts are looking to get back on track after a low-scoring 7-6 loss to Whitehaven to start region play.
Lausanne had an open date in Week 4, so it should be refreshed and ready to hit the ground running after losses to Southwind and CBHS to begin the season.
Myers' prediction: Germantown 21, Lausanne 20
White Station (1-3) at Cordova (2-1)
When: 7 p.m. | Sept. 18
Both schools enter this game after losing in blowout fashion. Cordova was beaten by Center Hill (Mississippi) 43-6, and White Station opened Region 8-6A play with a 41-6 loss to Southwind.
White Station has not won since Week 1. The Wolves, meanwhile, did not play in Week 4, giving the program time to regroup before its final non-region game until Week 9.
Myers' prediction: Cordova 30, White Station 13
Haywood (3-1) at Munford (3-0)
When: 7 p.m. | Sept. 18
Munford has stamped itself among the top Memphis area programs after knocking off Woodford County (Kentucky) 34-30 in Week 4.
Haywood has been impressive since its season-opening defeat. It has already scored 125 points in Region 8-4A play, including a 64-50 shootout win over Lakeland Prep
Myers' prediction: Munford 42, Haywood 33
Whitehaven (3-1) at Southaven, Mississippi (1-1)
When: 7 p.m. | Sept. 18
All Whitehaven needed was one touchdown in its 7-6 win against Germantown in Week 4. The Tigers travel across state lines for their next matchup.
Myers' prediction: Whitehaven 27, Southaven 13
Lake Cormorant, Mississippi (3-0) at Horn Lake, Mississippi (0-3)
When: 7 p.m. | Sept. 18
This all-Mississippi clash will be a difficult one for the hosts, who are still winless in 2026. Lake Cormorant improved to No. 14 in the latest Clarion Ledger Super 25 statewide rankings following its 42-6 win over Columbus.
Myers' prediction: Lake Cormorant 28, Horn Lake 13
Father Ryan (1-3, 0-1 DII-AAA West) at MUS (2-2, 0-1)
When: 7 p.m. | Sept. 18
Both programs began region play with tough losses, Father Ryan fell short, 49-20, against Briarcrest while MUS could only muster three points in a 35-3 blowout loss to Lipscomb Academy.
This matchup is a good chance for either team to earn its first region win of the season, so a lot will be at stake.
Myers' prediction: MUS 27, Father Ryan 20
