The Tennessee hospitality industry says it will be good for business. Memphis City Council chairman E.C. Jones says it will just "give people more time to drink too much on Sundays." The object of Jones's disaffection is a new rule that allows businesses that sell alcohol by the drink to start selling at 10 a.m. on Sunday, two hours earlier than the old rule allowed.

Ever since Aug. 3, Mike Westrich had been wondering what kind of guy would stand up in public and dare challenge him to a fight. Last night at the Holiday Inn-Rivermont, Westrich found out. Phil Reed, who opened his mouth at last month's pro boxing matches, did everything he said he would — except win last night's middleweight bout. Although
Westrich gained a unanimous decision, as he said he would, it was nothing like his knockout of Derrick Harrison on last month's card.

The Memphis Council of Parent-Teacher Association will hold its first Fall meeting Thursday at Ellis Auditorium. Mrs. L.M. Graves, council president, will preside. Presenting the character education message will be Mrs. W.D. Burkhalter, who will speak on "Making Christian Homes." The subject is in keeping with the organization's theme for the year — "Putting God's Kingdom First."
100 years ago — 1926
Over the green trail of the Memphis Country Club a field of 80 or more amateurs and professionals will strike out early tomorrow in quest of the second annual Memphis Open Golf championship. There will be 72 holes medal play with 36 holes Friday and the last half of the journey Saturday.
