What's that coming to the Poplar Plaza Shopping Center?

A popular California chicken chain is in the works in Memphis.

Dave's Hot Chicken is under construction at 3484 Poplar Ave., next to Petco in the existing Poplar Plaza Shopping Center. The 2,485 square foot space will seat 48 people in the interior and eight on a patio.

Headquartered in Pasadena, California, the level of spice of Dave's hot chicken can range from hot to mild to the trademarked "Reaper," made with Carolina Reaper chili peppers, which requires brave tasters to sign a waiver because of its extreme hotness.

There are standard options like chicken bites and mini sliders, as well as more indulgent offerings like loaded nacho fries and mac and cheese-loaded

sliders.

Dave's has one other Tennessee location in Chattanooga, and about 400 stores nationwide. The current nearest location to Memphis is in Conway, Arkansas.

According to the company's website, the chain was just named America’s Fastest Growing Restaurant Chain by industry research firm Technomic, a recognition earned because sales increased 156% over the past year, outpacing other chains nationwide.
