NASHVILLE ‒ Until this year, Tennessee had what the insurance industry considered one of the nation's weakest laws against insurance fraud. Now it has one of the toughest. ... The new law strengthens penalties against fraud in all kinds of insurance, including automobile, property and casualty, and health insurance, and gives prosecutors stronger legal tools to see seek convictions of people who commit or attempt to commit fraud. It also lets insurance companies file lawsuits in civil court to recover money obtained through fraud.

Symphony League members always ask some very attractive guests to their annual Symphony Ball, which is invariably the most glamorous social event of any Memphis season. Tomorrow
night's ball will be no exception, and there will be a large number of out-ot-town guests — mostly Mid-Southerners — at the ball with a showboat theme on the river bluff adjacent to the Rivermont. Pat and John Burton Tigrett of London and Memphis will have interesting guests. One of them will be former Mary Ann Mobley of Brandon, Miss., who was Miss America in 1959. She and her husband, Gary Collins, will come from their home in Beverly Hills, Calif.

After a week which saw four undefeated and untied squads take their first tumble, three teams are deadlocked for top position in the Junior High football race. Tied are Treadwell, defending loop champion, East and Bellevue, each with one win and one tie. Five teams are in a dead heat for fourth place with a win and a loss. Messick, Fairview and Catholic have yet to dent the win column, although Messick tied Bellevue 13 to 13.
100 years ago — 1926
The first upset caused by the August general election was sprung yesterday afternoon by Ben F. James, county register, when he announced that he was discharging Mills Capps, chief deputy register. The discharge was effective yesterday afternoon. Mr. Capps served as register from 1894 to 1898, and starting in 1910 to yesterday, had served as a deputy under Frank J. Rice and Murray Stewart.
