Inspector William J. Raney, veteran police officer and director of personnel for the Memphis Police Department, was notified yesterday of his promotion to lieutenant colonel in the Corps of Military Police Reserves. A wartime major, Inspector Raney was discharged
in February 1946, holding commendations for his work in Australia, Biak and Manila.
100 years ago — 1926
Embarkation of ex-service men on the steamer Idlewild Thursday night will remind many of the embarkation nine years ago for the fields of sunny France. But this trip will be much in contrast with the journey of the A.E.F. The purpose of the event is strictly one of pleasure and is being sponsored by Memphis Post No. 1 of the American Legion.
