Collierville's fifth annual Relay for Life surpassed last year's totals by more than $50,000. The annual fund-raiser for the American Cancer Society, held Aug. 18 and 19 at W.C. Johnson Park, took in more than $214,800. . .Event chairman Sheila Moody said more money is expected to come from local sponsors.

Something new has been added to the annual Kiwanis "Old Timers Day," coming up up Sept. 8 at the Holiday Inn-Rivermont. There'll be a Mr. Old Timer talent contest, in which Kiwanians who have put in a minimum of 25 years of service will compete. They can sing, dance, recite, play a musical instrument, tell jokes. A secret committee will judge the winner.
75 years ago — 1951
Mid-Southerners, who in recent
months have read considerably of Coon-on-the-log events, will be afforded an opportunity to witness the unique sporting event Sunday. Br'er Coon will be given a nice-sized log, just 40 feet off shore on Dacus Lake, Just across the river from Memphis, and perhaps a hundred hounds will take turns about trying to get possession of the log by putting the coon in the water.

JACKSON, Tenn. ‒ West Tennessee Scout leaders are planning to attend the fourth biennial Scout executive conference at Hot Springs Sept. 22-29. On Saturday and Sunday, the twenty-fifth and twenty-sixth, a regional meeting of all council representatives and presidents with the Scout executives will be held at new Arlington Hotel in Hot Springs. I.B. Tigrett is the West Tennessee Council representative with F.M. Frankland Sr., council president.
