A Memphis-based Mexican restaurant has plans to expand its local presence in a Lakeland shopping center.
Cocina Mexicana Bar & Grill filed a certificate of occupancy with the Memphis and Shelby County Division of Planning and Development on Sept. 8 to open a new restaurant and bar at 9020 U.S. 64 in Lakeland.
The restaurant plans to occupy a space in the 70,000 square feet Country Bridge shopping center in Lakeland, which is anchored by major tenants Sprouts Farmers Market and Harbor Freight.
Paul Luker, planning director for the City of Lakeland, confirmed Sept. 9 to the Commercial Appeal that Cocina Mexican Bar & Grill will take over the space of the closed Blossom Asian Cuisine Buffet next to Cannon Chiropractic.
Cocina Mexicana Bar & Grill has
filed to take up Suites 100, 101 and 102 in the now vacant 4,141-square-foot-space.
The restaurant serves a wide selection of classic Mexican grill items, seafood, tacos and house specialties.
Those signature specialties include the Cocina tacos that consist of three tacos filled with grilled chicken, pork, Mexican sausage (chorizo), steak, bell peppers, onions, seasoning and melted cheese with chipotle cream. Other favorites include molcajete, which is served in a stone bowl with cactus, onions, an assortment of meats and special sauce as well as the loaded Cocina potato.
The Cocina Mexicana Bar & Grill in Lakeland would be the restaurant’s fifth Memphis area location. The restaurant has locations at 2798 New Brunswick Road in the Wolfchase area, 7776 US Hwy. 70 in Bartlett, 6195 Macon Road, Suite 9, and 2945 Millbranch Road.
