Including Elvis Presley, six people have been laid to rest at Graceland, to date.
Is it any wonder, then, that the Meditation Garden — where Elvis is buried, alongside various family members — is for many visitors the emotional centerpiece of the Graceland experience?
Tours of Graceland end at this site, which is located on the south side of the mansion, and which is the focus of the annual Candlelight Vigil: the public procession to the Elvis grave that begins on the evening of Aug. 15, to mark the Aug. 16, 1977, death of the King.
That event always attracts thousands of fans to Memphis, many of whom are in the city for several days of "Elvis Week" activities.
While those fans are mostly familiar with the mansion, many other tourists may not realize before their visit that Elvis is not the only person buried at Graceland.
The six people who have been interred at the Meditation Garden include Elvis Presley; his parents, Gladys and Vernon Presley; his daughter, Lisa Marie Presley; Lisa Mare's son, Benjamin Keough; and Elvis' paternal grandmother, Minnie Mae Presley.
In addition, a memorial gravestone for Elvis' stillborn twin brother, Jesse Garon Presley, is in the Garden.
