The
Memphis area is under a severe thunderstorm watch on the evening of Aug. 22 as a strong storm cell moves through the Mid-South.
The National Weather Service Memphis office issued the watch and said wind gusts could be up to 75 miles per hour and quarter-sized hail could fall. The warning lasts until 10 p.m.
The watch includes a large portion of West Tennessee, North Mississippi, eastern Arkansas and southern Missouri.
According to Memphis Light, Gas and Water, 97,000 customers were without power as of 5:26 p.m. Saturday.
