Five shot, one dead after weekend shooting at Memphis house party

Five people were shot at a house party, one fatally, in Memphis' Hollywood neighborhood on Aug. 8, according to the Memphis Police Department.

In a statement, MPD said one person died at the hospital, two others were taken to the hospital in critical condition, and two victims had been taken to the hospital by a private vehicle. The latter two were in non-critical condition.

MPD said officers arrived at the scene, in the 1700 block of Brookins Street, at 11:19 p.m. and found three victims. Two women and one man were there, and one of the women would later die.

Since the shooting, three victims have been released from the hospital. One remains in critical condition, MPD said.

"Preliminary information revealed that a large party was taking place at the

location when a fight broke out," MPD said in the statement. "During the altercation, suspects fired multiple rounds before fleeing the scene."

Police said three people have been identified as suspects, but did not share their identities. MPD added there was no update in the investigation, and no arrests had been made, as of early on Aug. 10.
