The U.S. News & World Report released its 2026-27 rankings of hospitals in the U.S., including two Memphis-area hospitals.
The ranking includes 178 hospitals that ranked in at least one of 14 adult specialties, among 4,500 hospitals analyzed and more than 300,000 physicians surveyed.
Here's what each hospital in the Memphis area received high-performing designations for.
What were Baptist hospitals best at?
Baptist Memorial Hospital-Memphis was ranked first in the Memphis metro area and second in Tennessee.
Baptist Memphis was ranked high-performing in 15 adult procedures and conditions, including back surgery (spinal fusion), chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, diabetes, colon cancer surgery and ear, nose and throat surgery.
Baptist Memorial Hospital-DeSoto in Southaven was ranked
third in the Memphis metro and second in Mississippi, and was marked high-performing in six procedures and conditions, including chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, colon cancer surgery, diabetes, heart attack and heart failure.
What were Methodist Le Bonheur Healthcare hospitals best at?
Methodist Le Bonheur Healthcare adult hospitals were ranked second in the Memphis metro area and third in Tennessee.
Referred to as Methodist Hospitals of Memphis in the report, the system received high-performing designation in three specialties and 12 adult procedures or conditions, including gynecological cancer surgery, heart arrhythmia, heart bypass surgery, heart failure and hip fracture.
Methodist was also highlighted as a best regional hospital for community access, according to Chelsey Wen, an analyst at U.S. News & World Report. That's a designation given to high-performing hospitals that provide a lot of their care to underserved populations.
