St. Jude Children's Research Hospital continues to benefit from a $1 million prize won by an anonymous donor in a 1995 McDonald's promotion. St. Jude officials said Wednesday that the prize, which comes in annual payments of $50,000 over 20 years, was not connected to a cheating scandal that became public Tuesday with the arrest of eight people on federal charges.

The Hopalong hearts of young America still holds a sacred spot for Lassie — if last night's audience at the Ritz opening of "The Painted Hills" is any indication of a general trend. Memphis' juvenile jury watched as Lassie, playing "Shep of the Painted Hills," got poisoned, fought his way out of three narrow escapes, swam across mountain streams, climbed fork-jagged cliffs and, generally speaking, acted human.

Miss Sue Powers, superintendent of Shelby County Schools, addressed the 12 graduates who received bachelor degrees at informal graduation exercises at the West Tennessee Teachers College Saturday morning. President J.W. Brister delivered the diplomas to Conway E.
