Memphis Grizzliescenter Isaiah Stewart will be reevaluated in two weeks due to a moderate left ankle sprain, the team announced on Oct. 9.
Stewartinjured his ankle on a fallwhile defending a shot at the rim during the preseason opener against the Atlanta Hawks on Oct. 5. He left the game in the first quarter and did not return after playing two minutes.
The timeline means Stewart isn't expected to be available for the Oct. 21 season-opening matchup against the Utah Jazz.
Memphis acquired the 6-foot-8 Stewart this summer in a trade with the Detroit Pistons. Stewart spent five seasons with Detroit and was known as one of the vocal leaders on the team.
Stewart's absence means Zach Edey and Quinten Post will receive the bulk of minutes at center. The
Grizzlies have also played forwards Cam Boozer and Taylor Hendricks at center in stretches, plus they have two-way contract player Carson Cooper as another rookie center option.
