The New York Knicks are adding two basketball players with ties to Memphis.
Former Memphis Tigers center James Wiseman and Grizzlieswing John Konchar are signing Exhibit 9 contracts with the Knicks, the team announced on Sept 16. An Exhibit 9 contract is essentially a non-guaranteed deal that will give the players an opportunity to make the Knicks' regular season roster.
Wiseman, who played at East High in Memphis, played three games with the Tigers before being ruled ineligible due to receiving impermissible benefits.He still went on to become the No. 2 pick in the 2020 NBA Draft.
Wiseman spent three seasons with the Golden State Warriors before playing with the Detroit Pistons and Indiana Pacers. He has averaged nine points and 6.1 rebounds in 18.8
minutes per game in 152 career games.
Konchar joined the Grizzlies in 2019 and was one of the organization's longest-tenured players before being traded to the Utah Jazz in February. He went on to play 26 games with Utah before being traded to the Minnesota Timberwolves and waived.
In Memphis, Konchar was known for his rebounding and defensive instincts. In 337 career appearances, he averaged 4.1 points and 3.9 rebounds in 16.9 minutes per game.
