Organizers of the business showcase known as Market Base are changing more than just the event's name. When the Southaven Chamber of Commerce hosts Celebrate DeSoto Oct. 9 at the DeSoto Civic Center, the focus is going to be on consumers. Chamber executive director Diane Hill said the event, now in tis fifth year, was formerly promoted as a forum for business-to-business communication.

Variety will be the spice of Memphis' first International Hunting and Shooting Sports Show beginning Friday afternoon in Cook Convention Center on North Main. Highlighting the three-day festival of outdoor activities will be a $56,000 archery tournament, the richest
in history. Several of the world's finest bowmen have already entered.
75 years ago — 1951
The recent fixing of a $30 fee for admission to state tuberculosis hospitals for those able to pay "seems to have been necessary," the Public Information Committee of the Shelby County Tuberculosis Association reported yesterday. The committee, headed by Mrs. Ben R. Waller, made its report to the association's Executive Committee. Establishment of the admission fee was announced recently by the state commission which was set up by the last Legislature to control the West Tennessee Tuberculosis Hospital here and two other institutions which soon will be in operation.
100 years ago — 1926
A swimming party, followed by a buffet supper, will be given at the Catholic Club tomorrow evening by the Catholic Club hikers. Plans will also be made at this time for an outing to be given on Sept. 12.
