Mayor Willie Herenton Wednesday announced a $1 million grant to the RISE Foundation to support development of economic self-sufficiency among employed public housing residents. The grant will be awarded in the next five years to the nonprofit organization that encourages employed public housing residents to budget their money, save and reclaim their credit. Working residents who participate in a savings program through the foundation are given $2 for every $1 they bank.

HUNTSVILLE, Ala. ‒ While the decision remains two weeks away, foes of Tennessee Valley Authority's Browns Ferry nuclear plant near Athens have all but conceded it will be relicensed for full-power operations. They say the cards were stacked
against them even before they entered two days of hearings last week, stacked by the utilities and by federal authorities more concerned with placing the plant bac in operation than considering risks involved with nuclear energy.

Memphis will redouble its efforts to meet the Nation's ever-growing demand for steel when the Scrap Mobilization Committee holds its first meeting today at the Peabody. The steel industry has set as its goal production of 109,000,000 tons of steel within the next 12 months to meet military and civilian demands.
