UNIVERSITY, Miss. ‒ The University of Mississippi's Oxford campus, where Nobel Prize-winning author William Faulkner drafted As I Lay Dying and the late novelist Willie Morris spent more than a decade as a writer-in-residence, this fall offers the state's only master of fine arts in creative writing program. Monthly amounts paid to old age and survivors insurance beneficiaries in the Memphis area increased from $133,700 to $313,440, a rise of 130 percent between September 1950 and March 1. The number of such beneficiaries has jumped to 9,663, an increase of 32 percent.

Members of the Merton Avenue Christian Church rallied yesterday morning at the dedication of the new church and raised the $55,000 to pay for the cost of the edifice at Merton Avenue and Princeton Street. The Rev. John S. Zeran is pastor of the new structure. The money was subscribed within an hour. The woman's council pledged $5,500 and will have the organ installed.
