South Main will have a new outdoor patio and live music destination soon.
On Aug. 13, the Memphis and Shelby County Land Use Control Board approved a special use permit for an outdoor patio and lounge area at 525 and 529 S. Main St. The board approved the special use permit via its consent agenda.
According to the special use permit, the indoor portion will be 529 S. Main St (the former Paper & Clay site), a professional podcast studio along with an indoor lounge with a kitchen. That indoor space will be adjacent to an outdoor 50-person patio. That outdoor space is directly next door to Earnestine & Hazel's.

The combined space will feature live music and entertainment with ending times at 10 p.m. Monday through Thursday and 11 p.m. on weekends.
The space will close at midnight, daily, according to the approved permit application.
In May, developer and property owner Gary Helms filed a certificate of appropriateness permit for the 529 S. Main property. At the time, the space was called, The Patio.
