FedEx is providing customers even more safeguards for product delivery.
The Memphis-based logistics giant announced on Sept. 16 it has launched FedEx Authenticated Delivery, which is touted as a new premium delivery option that provides stronger assurance for select shipments, according to a news release.
The premium service uses secure QR code authentication to help make certain packages are released only to an authorized recipient, providing an additional layer of protection for high-value and sensitive shipments. It is available for eligible residential and commercial shipments in the U.S. and Canada.
According to company officials, FedEx Authenticated Delivery is created
to help diminish the risk of fraud, theft and misdelivery through a secure digital verification process as customers seek greater security and control over deliveries.
“The future of delivery isn’t just moving packages quickly. It’s about building greater trust throughout the delivery process,” Neil Gibson, FedEx senior vice president, global customer experience, said in the release. “FedEx Authenticated Delivery reflects our continued commitment to helping customers protect what matters most while creating more trusted and connected delivery experiences.”
How does FedEx Authenticated Delivery work?
When a shipper selects FedEx Authenticated Delivery for an eligible shipment, the recipient receives a unique QR code and delivery instructions through FedEx notifications. At delivery, a recipient with the QR code must be present and provide it to the FedEx driver for scanning and validation before the package can be released. No physical signature is required.
What is included in the FedEx Authenticated Delivery process?
- Secure recipient authentication: A unique QR code helps verify authorization before the package is released.
- Recipient communications: FedEx notifications provide delivery instructions, the QR code, and important shipment information to help recipients prepare for delivery.
- Greater visibility and control: FedEx notifications keep recipients informed throughout the delivery process. Vacation holds might be available through FedEx Delivery Manager when needed. To help maintain the security of the shipment, other delivery changes are restricted, including hold at location, redirect to hold, and address corrections.
