The investigation into the death of Kohen Wiley, the 1-year-old who was shot and killed by police officers in Senatobia, Mississippi, is now in the hands of the Mississippi attorney general, Senatobia's interim Chief of Police Angelica Maze announced in a Sept. 18 press release.
"June 14th, 2026, was a tragic day for the Wiley family, our community, and the Senatobia Police Department," read the press release. "The Mississippi Bureau of Investigations (MBI) has handled the investigation into the events of that day and has their investigative findings over to the Attorney General's office as required by law. The Attorney General will decide when to release any details, findings, or information related to the incident."
The Senatobia Police Department
will keep the public updated with "information we are permitted to share," the release read.
Maze was appointed to the position Sept. 3.
What happened to Kohen Wiley?
Law enforcement officers with the Senatobia Police Department and the Tate County Sheriff's Office responded to a shoplifting call at Walmart on U.S. 51, according to the Mississippi Department of Public Safety. Upon arrival, officers saw two people and a child allegedly fleeing from the store into a vehicle.
One officer shot into the car, and the car fled the scene. According to MPDS, the subjects arrived at a local hospital where the child was pronounced dead, and another subject had critical injuries.
