Week 4 of TSSAA high school footballmarked the beginning of region play for most Memphis-area schools. Others traveled to Mississippi for matchups against some of the top programs in the Magnolia State or in various regions of Tennessee.
The Memphis-area Super 15 rankings ahead of Week 5 look very different compared to the previous week. The top four teams remain locked into their positions, but programs in the middle of the pack struggled against out-of-region competition.
Memphis area Super 15 Football Rankings for Week 5
1. Briarcrest
Classification: Division II-AAA; Record: 4-0, 1-0 West Region; Next game: at St. Benedict, Sept. 18
Briarcrest keeps its place atop the Super 15 after beating Father Ryan 49-20 on Sept. 11. Junior quarterback Cayden Dixon continues to light it up with his 6-foot-2 frame and
impressive arm talent. Last week: No. 1

2. Southwind
Classification: 6A; Record: 4-0, 1-0 Region 8; Next game: at Holly Springs (Mississippi), Sept. 18
The Jaguars began region play with an impressive 41-6 victory over White Station. Southwind has proven its dominance up front on both sides of the ball through four weeks. Expect coach Jerome Griffin and company to continue creating chaos at the line of scrimmage going forward. Last week: No. 2
3. Munford
Classification: 5A; Record: 3-0; Next game: vs. Haywood, Sept. 18
Munford had its first major test against Woodford County (Kentucky) in Week 4, pulling out a 34-30 victory. In its two games before that, the Cougars won by a combined 119-0. They are beginning to receive statewide attention as well, coming in at No. 2 in the Tennessee statewide Class 5A rankings. Last week: No. 3
4. Whitehaven
Classification: 6A; Record: 3-1, 1-0 Region 8; Next game: at Southaven (Mississippi), Sept. 18
It wasn’t easy or pretty, but Whitehaven scored a touchdown with under five minutes left to beat Germantown 7-6 on Sept. 11. The Tigers struggled to move the ball offensively, but they forced Germantown into numerous turnovers and nullified the passing game. Last week: No. 4
5. Bartlett
Classification: 6A; Record: 3-1; Next game: at Houston. Sept. 18
Bartlett jumped four spots in the Super 15 rankings after knocking off Memphis Overton 49-14 during its homecoming game. The Panthers have notched wins in consecutive weeks after falling short against Germantown in Week 2. A road challenge against Houston, however, will be difficult to overcome. Last week: No. 9
6. Lake Cormorant (Mississippi)
Classification: 6A; Record: 3-0; Next game: at Horn Lake (Mississippi). Sept. 18
Lake Cormorant continued its impressive start to the season by earning a 42-6 win over Columbus on Sept. 11. Junior quarterback Curtis Shields completed eight passes for 120 yards and a touchdown. Last week: No. 10
7. Memphis Central
Classification: 5A; Record: 4-0; Next game: vs. Brighton, Sept. 18
The Warriors are off to an undefeated start. In Week 4, they beat PURE Academy 42-8, and three-star lineman Joshua Lane announced multiple SEC offers from Tennessee and Missouri on Sept. 14. Last week: No. 11
8. Christian Brothers
Classification: Division II-AAA; Record: 3-1; Next game: vs. Brentwood Academy, Sept. 18
The Purple Wave fell three spots after losing 22-21 in a tight game against Montgomery Bell Academy, the No. 4 team in theNashville area Super 25 rankings. Last week: No. 5
9. Collierville
Classification: 6A; Record: 1-3; Next game: vs Arlington. Sept. 18
Collierville faced three straight Mississippi schools. On Sept. 11, it lost 31-21 to Madison-Ridgeland Academy, the No. 12 team in the Clarion Ledger statewide Mississippi Super 25. Last week: No. 6
10. Houston
Classification: 6A; Record: 1-3; Next game: vs. Bartlett. Sept. 18
Much like its Region 7 rivals, Houston traveled to Mississippi and came back with a loss. The Mustangs fell 42-13 to Tupelo, the No. 1 team in the statewide Mississippi Super 25 rankings. For both Houston and Collierville, playing a difficult schedule before region play begins should prepare them for what’s to come the rest of the season. Last week: No. 7
11. Germantown
Classification: 6A; Record: 2-2, 0-1 Region 8; Next game: vs. Lausanne, Sept. 17
Germantown lost, 7-6, against Whitehaven to begin region play. The Red Devils led for most of the game and performed phenomenally on defense, holding numerous Division I talents to lackluster showings. Last week: No. 8
12. Lausanne
Classification: Division II-AA; Record: 0-2; Next game: at Germantown, Sept. 17
Lausanne didn’t play in Week 4 but travels to face Germantown this week. Despite its winless record, the Lynx have talent exhibited by playing a close game against Southwind in Week 1. Last week: No. 13
13. St. Benedict
Classification: Division II-AA; Record: 4-0; Next game: at Briarcrest, Sept. 18
The Eagles cracked the Super 15 rankings for the first time this season, as their impressive undefeated start can no longer go unrecognized. They knocked off Kingsbury 50-6 and have an average margin of victory of almost 33 points per game. A road test against Briarcrest, however, will showcase just how formidable they’ll be. Last week: Not ranked.
14. Mitchell
Classification: 2A; Record: 3-1, 2-0 Region 8; Next game: at Northpoint Christian, Sept. 18
Mitchell also earns a Super 15 placement for the first time in 2026 after outscoring its opponents 84-0 through two games in region play. Its final non-region game at Northpoint Christian will be more challenging than the Trojans’ 0-4 record suggests. Northpoint Christian played a competitive game against Tupelo in Week 3. Last week: Not ranked.
15. Wooddale
Classification: 3A; Record: 3-1, 1-0 Region 8; Next game: at Melrose, Sept. 18
Wooddale began region play with authority, knocking off Memphis East 30-0 to earn its first Super 15 ranking of the season. As the season progresses, this region loaded with seven schools will likely have its ebbs and flows. Last week: Not ranked.
