A motorcyclist died after being struck by a car in Coachella on Friday morning, Sept. 4.
Sheriff's deputies responded to a traffic collision in the area of Avenue 54 and Tyler Street at 5 a.m. They found the motorcyclist in the road when they arrived. The motorcyclist was in critical condition and transported to the hospital, where they later died.
The Riverside County Sheriff's Department said the driver of the vehicle that struck the motorcyclist stayed at the scene and cooperated with its investigation. Drugs and alcohol don't appear to have contributed to the crash, the department added.
An investigation into what did cause the crash was ongoing. The motorcyclist's identity was being withheld until their next of kin was notified of their death.
