A 76-year-old man in Rancho Mirage was stabbed to death, and his stepson was arrested Friday, Oct. 2, on suspicion of murder, sheriff's investigators said.
Deputies were called around 8:33 p.m Thursday, Oct. 1, to the 36-000 block of Palm View Road for a reported "assault with a deadly weapon," where they found 76-year-old Carl Harry Smith "suffering from injuries consistent with stab wounds," Riverside County Sheriff's Department Sgt. Carlos Mendoza said in a press release.
Smith was pronounced dead at the scene. Public records show he had lived in a home on the block where the stabbing took place.
Smith's stepson, Joshua Jordan Kohain-King, 36, of Joshua Tree, was arrested without incident and booked into the John J. Benoit Detention Center in Indio,
The sheriff's department said . He was being held at the Larry D. Smith Correctional Facility in Banning.
Kohain-King was scheduled to appear in court Tuesday, Oct. 6, at the Larson Justice Center in Indio, according to jail records.
