Only one high school quarterback in the Coachella Valley has thrown at least 48 touchdown passes during his high school career, and he's playing for Xavier Prep this season.
Samuel Mourhess, a senior who stands 6-foot-4 and weighs around 220 pounds, has the size of a prototypical NFL quarterback. He's also recorded absurd passing numbers.
Mourhess threw for 5,924 yards and 48 touchdowns over the last two seasons, playing for Desert Chapel. For that reason, he's No. 11 on The Desert Sun's 2026 Elite 11 countdown.
The unknown about the senior's huge numbers is that they came against small school competition, but now Mourhess will suit up for the Saints after a transfer, and he'll be surrounded by more talent than he's had previously.
He'll also be
playing against better competition, so time will tell whether he's the real deal or simply someone who posted eye-popping numbers against a softer schedule. We're expecting Mourhess to show that the numbers he recorded the last two years were no fluke.
