A 40-year-old Bermuda Dunes man was arrested in connection to a 2004 fatal shooting, the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department said on Monday, July 27.
Deputies responded to a report of a man shot in the 52-400 block of Avenida Obregon in La Quinta around 4:30 a.m. on July 5, 2004. They found Daniel Medina, 17, of Indio, with multiple gunshot wounds when they arrived. He was taken to the hospital but died from his injuries, the sheriff’s department said.
The sheriff’s department said investigators identified a person of interest at the time but did not have enough evidence to make an arrest. Investigators recently revisited the shooting as part of efforts to review unsolved homicide cases and obtained additional evidence, the sheriff’s department added.
Eddie Zazueta was identified as the suspect. Authorities arrested Zazueta on Friday, July 24. The sheriff’s department said he was booked into the Larry Smith Correctional Facility on murder charges.
