A 35-year-old man has been arrested on charges that he threw glass bottles into a crowd at Splash House, injuring nine people during the Palm Springs music festival.
The Palm Springs Police Department announced Friday, Aug. 14, Milan Youssef of El Cajon had surrendered himself and been booked into the John J. Benoit Detention Center.
PSPD has named Youssef as a suspect in an incident that occurred in the early morning hours of Sunday, Aug. 9, during a Chainsmokers performance at the Palm Springs Air Museum that was part of Splash House.
Police said a dispute began around 1:37 a.m., which involved bottles being thrown into the crowd. Nine people not involved in the dispute were hit by broken glass, two of whom were treated at the scene and seven
of whom needed to be taken to local hospitals.
Youssef was taken into custody on suspicion of several counts of assault with a deadly weapon.
PSPD collaborated with the San Diego Police Department's Violent Crime Task Force for the investigation. Investigators first made contact with Youssef before he surrendered himself on Friday.
What is Splash House?
Splash House is a three-day music festival that primarily takes place at three large hotels in Palm Springs over two weekends in August. Most of the acts perform between 1 p.m. and 9 p.m. at either the Renaissance, Saguaro or Hilton hotels.
However, there is an official after party held at the Palm Springs Air Museum from 9 p.m. to 2 a.m. on the first two days of the festival.
The festival was slated to repeat from Friday, Aug. 14, to Sunday, Aug. 16 with different artists performing.
