It's time once again for Athlete of the Week, which is where you vote for The Desert Sun's top performance of the week.
Simply vote for your favorite in the poll attached to this article at desertsun.com by noon on Saturday and whoever has the most votes will be the weekly winner.
But before we look at this week's candidates, let's see who you chose as last week's Athlete of the Week. You voted and you selected Shadow Hills volleyball player Natalia Smith. She was unstoppable in a 3-1 win over Rancho Mirage as she had a whopping 25 kills on the night to help the Knights.

Here are this week's nominees in alphabetical order.
Scarlett Garcia, La Quinta flag football
What she did: Garcia went off in a recent against Xavier Prep. The talented junior receiver had 10 catches for 139 yards and had three interceptions with 84 return yards on her way to a total of three touchdowns in the 24-0 win over the Saints. She also ran the ball seven times for 49 yards and five flag-pulls.
Janelle Herling, Xavier Prep volleyball
What she did: Herling, a junior, set an all-time Xavier Prep record during the team's dramatic five-set win over Palm Desert on Tuesday. She racked up a whopping 60 assists, which is a single-match record in the program's history.
Destiny Sandoval, Palm Springs flag football
What she did: The senior has been a key player for the Indians all season and she was all over the place in a recent game against La Quinta, affecting the game from her linebacker and scoring the Indians' only touchdown in the contest.
Sophie Villareal, Shadow Hills flag football
What she did: Villareal came up big in the Knights' important 20-6 win over Palm Desert on Tuesday. Villareal had a rushing touchdown and a receiving touchdown in the victory, and racked up 88 total yards along the way.
Vanessa Vorwald, Palm Desert tennis
What she did: Vorwald came through with a spotless 3-0 record in Palm Desert's recent victory over Xavier Prep, a key win in the race for the DEL title. Vorwald won her sets 7-5, 6-0 and 6-0 to help lift the Aztecs to a 13-5 win.
