After being held to six points in its season opening games of the season, Palm Springs High School has quickly found its offense. On Friday, the Indians found the end zone six times and extended a win streak in the process.
Coachella Valley hadn't beaten Palm Springs since 1999, and this seemed like a year the streak could end. But despite the game being close through the final three quarters, the Indians never trailed and emerged with a 41-35 win.
The win streak over the Arabs is now 18 games.
But the streak nearly ended. Coachella Valley forced a turnover with 2:32 remaining in the game and a touchdown and point-after would have been enough to secure the comeback win.
Ultimately, there wasn't enough time.
Coachella Valley reached midfield with
a minute remaining, then drove to within 40 yards of the end zone by the time the clock hit the final 30 seconds. But with star quarterback Ivan Garza on the sideline with an injury, knocked out of the game in the third quarter, the Arabs were unable to move the ball any closer before time expired.
Palm Springs will play Colton next, on Sept. 11. Coachella Valley will face Palo Verde Valley.
