The California Department of Motor Vehicles has announced its Palm Desert office will temporarily close after Friday, Sept. 18.
The office, located at 74-740 Technology Drive, will close at 5 p.m. Sept. 18 for interior painting and is scheduled to reopen at 8 a.m. Monday, Sept. 28.
Where to go during the Palm Desert DMV closure

Customers who need to visit a DMV office during the closure can go to Indio or Palm Springs, the two closest alternatives:
- The Indio DMV office, at 44-480 Jackson St. and about 11 miles away from the Palm Desert office, is open from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday, as well as from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Wednesday.
- The Palm Springs office, at 950 N. Farrell Drive, is open from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday, and from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Wednesday. It is about 13 miles away from the Palm Desert office.
Other options include the Hemet office, at 1200 S. State St., about 56 miles away from Palm Desert. The Twentynine Palms office, located at 3668 Adobe Road, Suite G-J, is about 64 miles away and is open only Tuesdays and Thursdays.
How to skip a trip to the DMV
Before making the drive to the DMV, customers can check whether they can take of what they need online, including some
driver's license and vehicle registration renewals.
