California pool owners will be seeing fewer Leslie’s Pool Supplies locations in their communities. That includes in the Coachella Valley, where the Palm Desert location has closed, though two others remain open.
The Phoenix-based retailer, one of the nation’s largest sellers of pool chemicals, maintenance equipment, and backyard pool products, announced plans to close 76 stores nationwide as part of a Chapter 11 bankruptcy restructuring. California will be hit harder than any other state, with 26 locations slated for closure from the Bay Area to Southern California.
The company says it is not shutting down entirely and intends to emerge from bankruptcy with a smaller retail footprint and a stronger financial position in early 2027.
Is Leslie's Pool Supplies going out of business?
No.
Leslie’s
filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection as part of a restructuring effort, but company leaders say the retailer will continue operating while it closes underperforming stores and reorganizes its finances.
"Leslie's is here to stay," CEO Jason McDonell said in a statement announcing the restructuring. According to the company, the bankruptcy process is intended to reduce debt and allow the retailer to reinvest in both its stores and online operations.
Customers can continue shopping at remaining locations and through Leslie's website while the restructuring moves forward.

Does Leslie's have other Coachella Valley locations?
Yes. The chain has locations in both Cathedral City and La Quinta, according to its website, and neither is slated to close, according to the list the company released. They're at 69195 Ramon Road, Suite C2, in Cathedral City and 78315 Highway 111 in La Quinta.
Why is Leslie's closing stores?
The company has not publicly identified specific reasons for each closure, but court filings indicate the store reductions are part of a broader bankruptcy restructuring plan.
Like many brick-and-mortar retailers, Leslie's has faced pressure from changing consumer habits, inflation, and competition from online sellers. By shedding dozens of locations, the company aims to reduce costs while focusing investment on stores and markets it believes can remain profitable.
California, Florida and Texas account for the largest share of planned closures nationwide.
What should California customers do next?
Customers who regularly buy pool chemicals, filters, pumps, or maintenance supplies from a closing Leslie's store may want to:
- Check whether another Leslie's location operates nearby.
- Review any rewards-program benefits or outstanding store credits.
- Monitor local stores for liquidation or closeout sales.
- Consider ordering future supplies online through Leslie's website.
The company has not announced specific closure dates for individual California stores.
For now, Leslie's says it plans to continue serving customers during the bankruptcy process while working toward a financial turnaround and a re-emergence from Chapter 11 protection in 2027.
