A 57-year-old Palm Desert man who died after his motorcycle crashed into a guardrail on Highway 74 has been identified.
The California Highway Patrol said it responded to a single-vehicle crash on State Route 74, near milepost 89 around 7:30 a.m. on Saturday, Aug. 15. That is the winding, mountain route connecting Palm Desert and the communities of Pinyon Crest, Pinyon Pines and Alpine Village.
The Riverside County coroner's office later identified the man as Luis Guerrero. Guerrero was heading east on his motorcycle when he left the roadway for reasons still under investigation and collided with a guardrail, the CHP said.
He was then ejected from the motorcycle. Guerrero was pronounced dead at the scene. The CHP said it did not suspect alcohol
or drugs were a factor in the crash.
