Have you ever dreamed of skating on the ice alongside Olympic medalist Nancy Kerrigan?
You can make that dream come true at the Berger Foundation Iceplex inside Acrisure Arena on Sept. 6 as the former American figure skating star is hosting her Nancy Kerrigan Ice Dreams Workshop.
The U.S. Figure Skating Hall of Famer is putting on a clinic that gives locals a chance learn from and skate with Kerrigan.
The clinic is open to skaters of all ages and skill levels and the cost to participate is $275, or $250 if you are a member of the Desert Figure Skating Club.
The clinic runs from noon to 5:30 p.m. and this is the itinerary:
- Check-in, welcome, and off-ice warm-up
- First on-ice session: edges, figures, and power skating by level
- Break, refreshments, storytelling with Nancy Kerrigan, and off-ice jump drills
- Second on-ice session: jumps, spins, and artistry
- Final words and photos with Kerrigan on the ice
The event is hosted by the Desert Figure Skating Club, which is celebrating its 40th anniversary.
Kerrigan, who won a bronze medal
at the 1992 Winter Olympics and a silver in 1994, was famously part of one of the strangest incidents in the sport's history.
On Jan. 6, 1994, Kerrigan was struck on her knee by an assailant with a police baton who later turned out to be the ex-husband of her rival, Tonya Harding. Kerrigan had a speedy recovery and did not miss any major action, but the saga, which included Harding being banned from competition, remains a memorable part of the lore of the sport of figure skating.
